need help my 96 12v will not start, any ideas have work in two hrs.. last night i came home and she was runnin good i walked out to start her up and now she just cranks and cranks.

 

Check if the solenoid is working, with the ignition on, the rod should move all the way up. If it is not, you are not getting fuel. If it is not moving, again, with the ignition on, try pushing the rod up. If it moves and stays there (it should) you have found the problem.

 

thanks while look at that i noticed two small wires that came off the batt, on red with black strip and i think orange with black strip. i hook those back up and she fired up, what do those wires go to i tracked to a big harness.

 

maybe to the fuel shut off relays. If you ever have another problem with it starting. you can wire the fuel shut off in the on position and get it home. I have had to do that a few times.

Check shutoff solenoid, relay and fusible link to battery (blue wire). You can manually engage solenoid in a jam too. Just turn key to on, manually push plunger in and then it should fire right up. The solenoid should outlast the truck. You can take solenoid off and look at the rubber boot as well. Replacement boot is about $26. Clean the solenoid shaft with brake clean and put back together. You can try cleaning contacts of relay as well.
