it has happened more than a few times. big pumps with a bunch of rack travel are real hard on the stock cams.

All it takes is a poorly cast piece of steel, or a machining error buy the operator...So like said above, anything is possible, but not probable.

I've seen it in a 350 Chevy. But it was from poor construction of the cam, and lack of lubercation that was the problem. That truck really was a friday truck, for sure, with all the other problems it had.

Not uncommon....unfortunantly! It seems to happen at the number 1 journal, so technically not in half.

Right there above ^^ is the most simple direct answer when it comes to anything mechanical. Unless you do neutral-slam drag races like a or something!

As said it has happened to a few of the higher hp p-pump engines, but I doubt it would happen to a stock one. F1 helix cams offer a bolt on gear to help prevent the failure.

The bolt on gear is for gear walk which has nothing to do with snapping a cam.

Yeah but doesn't the bolt go clear into the 2nd bearing journal to help strengthen the nose of the cam??

That's odd?
The way I understand it the walk is what allows the cam to break?
Perhaps you would care to elaborate?
