Have you guys checked the boot on the Shutdown Solenoid? I was surprised to find how deteriorated it was. I could see where this would allow gunk, crude, to get in there and make it fail prematurely. I have a pic of the bad and the new replaced one in my gallery. Glad to have found out now while it still works. The inside of the solenoid was just starting to get stuff in it.

Put a new boot on mine. The old one was tearing in a few places.

 

More important then that check the power wire for the solenoid that goes to the battery! Ive seen theses very expensive solenoids misdiagnosed too many times!

Kandgo: Good idea with the inner tube. How does it hold up to the heat ?

 

I've found the bike tube and two cable ties last longer than the factory boot.
In fact foster truck used to sell a inner tube boot with two cable ties for $1.
Larry named the kit after me as a joke since I was the one who may have been the one to first come up with it.

 

If you can find a extra thick one[one of the thorn proof ones] they will outlast several solenoids . Goodluck,,Rick
