You have to turn it to crank the engine position for it to come up. The solenoid has two coils, the stronger lift up coil is energized by the starter motor. After it's started the hold up coil takes over. If yours isn't pulling up when you crank the engine the problem is likely the blue wire that comes off your driver's side battery is corroded or the relay on the firewall is shot.

ok i pulled it up before i cranked it. I just thought maybe that was the hard starting culpritt. I tryed adjusting my idle but the 10mm nut was way too tight and i dont want to round it off.

it moves up when you put the key to start, through the 70A relay on the firewall (a common failure point)

ok I think my plan of attack is this, Replace the lines tank to pump and check the pickup for leaks, fix as required. move fuel plate forward and adjust star wheel. also do the kdp thing while im at it. ? do i need a gasket or can i use rtv? And the last thing, No one has really piped up on the gas line versus deisel rated stuff. Any takers there?

Some gas line is compatable with diesel, others aren't and will melt.
Why take a chance?
Don't believe the guy behind the counter at the auto parts store.

Try a boat shop, they usually have higher quality hose than you'll find at the auto parts.
