fuel pressure problem!! (I think?)

I was driving home last night and noticed the truck has less power? looked at the fuel guage and saw that i am running 18 psi at 1900 rpm and if i get into it the pressure drops to 10 psi! I am a little worried i really dont want to install a new IP pump right now! any one have a clue on where to start? i just replaced the fuel filter less then 2k ago and installed a 3k gsk spring and a #10 fuel plate less then 1000k miles ago? the truck has 178,0000 on it? do you think it could be a lift pump?
thanks for the help!

First things first, you say you changed the fuel filter, did you clean the pre-filter screen? It is right below the fuel heater, next to the lift pump. Assuming you have done that, the next thing to do is to pinch off the fuel return line ( 5/16" one returning the fuel from the IP ) and see if the pressure jump up to 60 PSI or so. If it does, your lift pump is fine.

Your IP is fine though.............

Look behind your fuel filter. 3/8" line is on the bottom, 5/16" line is above, connects to the hard line behind the filter housing and runs up to the overflow valve.

Lets see if this works...........

If you pinch your return line and the fuel pressure goes up to 50 + lbs the lift pump is good. If so then I would replace your overflow valve. If it still does not go up then I would replace your fuel filter again, you may have gotten a bad tank of furel. I had this happen to me once and my filter pluged within 1/2 hour of filling up the fuel tank. It took 3 changes of filters before my filter change intervals started getting back to normal.

Ofv

ok! so i got the new OFV and installed it last night started the truck up and the pressure shot up to 28-30 psi at idle so i reved it up and at 2500 rpm no load the fuel pressure went up to 35-36 psi so i took it for a ride and it runs great but when i geat into it the fuel pressure drops to 27-28 psi around 2500 rpm with a load is this normal? i dont remember that from before! I have looked but have had no luck finding a fuel leak! it feels like the truck is not as strong as it was before my problem started!

Thanks for the help!

Pressure you are seeing is normal. The pump is doing all it can under load, it can only flow so much before pressure drops. Pressure is resistance to flow, so when the engine works hard, it drinks hard - which increases flow - which lowers resistance - which = lower pressure. When it's not working hard (for example idling or reving with no load), it's not drinking hard - so it's (mostly) just pumping the return fuel which means decreased flow - which increases resistance which = increased pressure.
Make sense? lol

Tork tech valves work great. The governor works properly with correct pressure in the off road inj pumps.
