fuel pickup at tank
fuel pickup at tank
Hello
I'm in the process of replacing all of the fuel lines between the engine and the tank. I noticed that the steel lines coming out of the tank at the pickup are getting questionable and I'd like to replace them as long as I have everything apart.
Are those lines in the tank pickup replaceable? I realize that some rigging will be required, but NAPA wants close $400 for the whole unit - with the float etc.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Vic

You can pry the plug out of the sender (the one that has the pickup in it). The vulcan draw straw fits in there, but to retain the float and one-way valves in the sender assembly, youll need to replace the nylon tube coil with something else and clamp it in place.
I tried a few bits of nylon tubing I had here, but I didnt have one of the right thickness so it was too rigid to use in there. I used a piece of diesel fuel hose instead.
Dont run a straight pickup down to the bottom of the tank, the sloshing makes the last 1/4 tank unusable

Either the Vulcan Draw Straw or you can get a rebuilt module from the dealer with the improved sender for $125. The rebuilts have plastic instead of metal lines that won't rust out.
Hope you're replacing the lines with hose all the way, not the stock metal lines.
Marine grade hose will easily outlast your truck.

Thanks for the info, guys. No stock metal lines here
The draw straw seems reasonable. I think I'll go with that. To clarify, I should specify the 'flexible nylon' draw tube when ordering?
Thanks
Vic
