Fuel mileage ?????
I recently took a trip from Oregon to Utah. Going I was empty and coming back I was towing a 30' bumper pull travel trailer. On I 80 I tried both 65 and 70 to see if there was any difference in fuel mileage and there really wasn't; it was 15 mpg. Coming home pulling the trailer at 65 i got 9 mpg. I thought I would do better than that.
What do you think?
Also I had a hard time keeping the exhaust temps down. Any ideas on that?
Thanks

WOW that sounds hot for POST turbo!
How where the boost #s? I am wondering if you have a boost leak, or turbo issues with EGTs that high.

I check for a boost leak when I got home. there was a slight one, it whistled when I put air in the system. I wouldn't think that was enough to mess things up? How would I check for turbo issues? I do have a #5 plate...should I go to a # 10 or back off the #5? It had a brand new air filter in it.

Turbos are a pretty simple device....What were your boost numbers? At what RPM? Your 4.10s won't give much more mileage than that but should help keep your EGTs down. Keeping RPMs up around 2k should keep EGTs from getting out of hand, but if the wastegate is opening too soon or too late it will also have an adverse effect.
I've found EGTs will clean climb very quickly if I let rpms get below 1800 on a grade with some weight, say 5-8 tons. Also using a 215hp pump with no plate, timing at 16* and boost elbow at 30psi, for reference.

my boost numbers with trailer are:
driving on flat - 18 rpm 2100 -2200
On interstate going up hills, not serious grades -25+ rpm 2100-2200
egts would go on the hills to easily 900 -1200 and then that one time it hit 1400
and this is post turbo
