Question Fuel line type????

Ive always thought that you should replace your fuel line with "diesel rated" line only. Ive heard that if you use gas line or multifuel line, that it will eventually rott away in the inside with diesel fuel. Called a local diesel injection shop for some diesel line and he says its just regular fuel line and i can get it at napa??? What gives? Can anybody clear this up for me??? Thanks -Jake

I have found some fuel injection hose at Napa online http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/nc...&usrcommgrpid=
Will this work? They dont have 5/16 in their marine hose.

Also, just talked to a Napa guy, he said that gas line is rated a little better than diesel line and will work just fine???

I went to the NAPA here in town and they sent me over to a Diesel shop for fuel line. They only had regular fuel line and said it wouldn't work. The stuff I bought was "diesel rated" what ever that means.

I'm sure many autoparts are just like gas stations, the people who work there don't know what they sell. I'm sure there are grades of gasoline line that will hold up well with diesel but unless you trust the guy behind the counter, who most often doesn't know jack about diesels, why take the risk of wasted time changing lines if they won't last long?
Many people are under the misconception that gasoline would be much harder on rubber than diesel because gas seems more like a solvent. In truth diesel is incompatible with way more materials than gasoline.

I personally wouldn't settle for any line that didn't say diesel right on it, better yet US Coast Guard approved.

I finally found a shop that actually knew what diesel rated hose was and have some waiting for me. It just amazes me how many shops/businesses dont know the difference between diesel/gas hose that they sell!!! And confusing the crap out of me! (not hard to do)

Now the fun starts. Installing my nice new diesel rated hose!
How have you guys been hooking up the supply at the motor. Barb on the pre-heater? If so, what do you seal the threads with?

Mine have a steel line up to the top rear of the engine from the fuel heater. The hose just slips over the steel line, no barbed fittings.

I had a cummins shop say "all we use is regular fuel line". I figure the guy behind the counter did not know, so I bought some from them anyways. Yep, regular fuel line it was . Kevin

I work in fleet maintence for a trucking company. Our parts guys went nuts looking for diesel rated hose and finally gave up. We either use regular hose with no problems or plastic line for our tcu units. I went thru the same problem trying to find someone arouynd that knew the diff. Finally I used reg gas line and it worked great.

I bought enough 3/8" USCG diesel rated hose for several trucks from a place in Daytona - the good blue, indestructble Goodyear line. Goodyear does not make a 5/16" in blue so I went with a local diesel shop's on-hand stock of Weatherhead brand in 5/16" - this shop has been around forever and all they have ever used is Weatherhead so I figured it was safe.

~3 years, 70K miles, no leaks

The originals weren't leaking but they were shot at 100K - glad I changed them to good stuff because I wouldn't want to have to do that agian anytime soon.
