Fuel leak - fixed, questions still.

Over the weekend I put about a thousand miles on my truck hauling a couple of cars for a friend. About a half hour from home I started smelling fuel when just the driver window was down. I stopped to fill-up about 10 miles from the house and noticed a fairly substantial leak from the fuel filter area. I put a few gallons in and limped home.

I could see the area it was leaking from but not what exactly was leaking - either the fuel filter or the drain valve. I replaced just the filter using the original drain valve and problem solved. The old o-rings didn't look bad and I can't see any real reason for the sudden leak.

Is this a common problem? I want to be prepared if it is. I just got the truck a few months ago and don't know how old the fuel filter was - didn't look too old.

I also cleaned the engine bay at the carwash and now my WIF light is on(runs fine). I may have gotten the connection wet, is there a way to reset that light?

Thanks,
Ryan

Maybe the filter wasn't on tight enough and came unscrewed.

Some WD-40 or electrical contact cleaner in the plug connections to the WIF sensor should fix it up..

Filter was tight, o-ring looks to be in good shape, and the valve was tight. Does the drain valve ever just get "hung up"? Either way my problem is fixed...... and I probably needed a new filter anyway.

I'll hit the sensor with some WD and see if that does it.

Thanks.
