Fuel leak

I was going to say persistent, but I really haven't had for that long. I'm new to the diesel world with recently buying a 89' D250 Farm truck with a 727. I had a fuel drip coming from the bottom of the water in fuel sensor. I cycled the drain a couple times and it looked like it stopped. Wrong, then I replaced the filter with one without the sensor and again I thought the leak had stopped. Today's update: Didn't drive it yesterday. Went to town and back (50 miles) and found the filter wet again. Not dripping, but wet. Any ideas where I should look next? Apparently the filter housing is the source of the current leak. Is there anything specific that is the usual problem?
Thanks,

When you replaced the filter, did you make sure that the little oring on the nipple was replaced? It is also possible that the oring on the fuel heater is leaking.

No, I unscrewed the old filter and checked to make sure the sealing area was clean and oiled the new rubber seal on the new filter and screwed it in place. As long as the seal on the filter is good, why would a O ring be needed? Not arguing just asking.

Thanks,

I would check the threaded fitting that the filter screws on to. If this lose it will allow the fuel heater to leak which is just above the fuel filter.

On my truck, the fuel filter comes with a smaller oring that slips over the nipple that the filter screws on to, and if I replace the filter with out that oring it leaks every time. I've also been in a hurry and forgot to take the old one off and double gasketed it and that makes it leak as well.

To answer your question, I don't know why it's needed, all I know is my fuel filter will leak if I don't put the oring on.

Maybe that's the problem, I'll check in the morning.

Thanks,

Thanks,
You're welcome, and as BigIron said in his post check that the threaded nipple going into the heater that the filter threads onto is tight. They will come loose during filter changes sometimes.
