Fuel Float

Long story short, some DA filled my rig with gas. Station towed me to a diesel repair shop who siphoned tank. Everything fine, except, now my fuel gauge isn't working properly. With approx. 3/4 of a tank, it reads from full to 3/4 to almost half and then back to 3/4. I know some variation is normal due to the fuel sloshing around but this seems a little extreme. My question... does the fuel float go in at the top and hang down into the tank like the gas rigs? Is it possible that "they" bent the float/float rod while siphoning? Thanks

The float is inside the fuel tank module which is basically a canister with a filter screen at the bottom. The float is totally protected inside, they would have to remove the module to mess it up.

So it is a different design than the gas version? My diesel is a '96 and I recently replaced a fuel pump in a '96 gas rig. I thought it was the same design except no fuel pump. The gas version is a canister but the float sticks out a bit and is exposed in the tank somewhat. I was thinking when they were twisting the siphon hose around to get to the bottom of the tank maybe they smacked the float a coupla times.

You're right, it does stick out a bit and swings up and down from a pivot point.

You can try giving a good few swift kicks to the side of the fuel tanks to see if it "breaks loose" a little.
