ok we are on the road and going pulling a 19' foot boat.
60 mph cruising
trans temp 150*
engine temp 175-180*
boost 2-4 psi just cruising
exhaust temp 550-750*
the electric fans aren't eveing kicking on. they come on at 60% @ 190-195* then 100% @ 200-205*
now we have been cruising @ 65 mph for some time now
trans temp 150*
engine temp 175-180*
boost 2-4 psi
exhaust temp 600-750*
the outside temp is 82* and we have about a 10mph head wind.
so far so good.

yes. its set to come on @ 60% power @ 190-195* and then 100% @ 200-205*. just like stated up above. but yes i can change it so they come on sooner or later. but at this moment we have gone 150 miles and they haven't come on yet.

A little 411 I put the fans on a 2006 everything was great but pulling up hill whoa! High temp I had to ease off of the skinny pedal a bit. Cured it by adjusting the little black box that on the fan housing. Good luck

thanks for the heads up. as u can telll at the begining of the post i didn't start small when i tried this out. i went out directly and tested them with my 45' fullfy enclosed trailer. took it out on the curviest and hillest and steepest hills we have in NE IOWA were i live. had no issues
now we are currently in MICHIGAN and haveing no issues still hasn't gotten over 180* and thats even hitting rush hour in chicago at 5pm.
which way did u adjust your box?? and did u put in a manual ON switch in to maually turn your fans on when needed?
thanks

ok. we have gone 1300 miles so far. no problems at all. pulling a 19' javalin boat with a 175HP motor and also now a 13' upright camper.
the engine temp has never gotten over 180* and we have seen alot of road construction and traffic jams!! when we were @ 1047 miles when we finally needed to stop and fill up, well not really we still have 18 gallons in the truck, but i checked the mileage and we were @ 15.0 mpg. not too bad pulling a 19' 4,000 pound boat and alot of stopping an going for traffic jam and road construction!!
we are back in IOWA now. in about 3 hours we will be home. then we are off to UTAH and COLORADO!! so we will see how the mountains are with pulling another boat from iowa to there. but on the way back we will have a 24' fully enclosed trailer with a full race ready race car. and also misc stuff inside the trailer.
so that alone will put us @ or above the 18,000 pound mark. i will run it across a scale and check it out. as we will be pulling that from COLORADO to NORTH CAROLINA. so we will deffinatly get to test these fans in the mountains on both sides of the country in the same week (THIS WEEK).
keep u guys posted!!

I adjusted the little black box that’s on the housing by turning it ¼ turn and everything worked fine. I believe the reason the truck overheated was the altitude difference of 1300 ft. within 20 miles of an uphill climb pulling a 24 ft. cattle trailer. I have the switch but it’s still in the box it’s on the to do list. Most of the guys don’t think they work but I hope they see this. How is it on MPG?

Where do you get a Horton clutch? Haven't seen one of them around for almost 4 years... Not to mention about $1200 last time I checked...
I am really liking this thread.. For us cold Canuks, it seems like a logical upgrade to make.

so far just pulling 2 boats n a camper my mpg has increased 1.5---2 mpg. and thats with my turbo on its last leg.
now the advantages of the elec fans is:
increased fuel economy
less drag on the engine
increased belt life
ALOT COLDER a/c trust me
small increase in hp/tq
u won't feel the throttle response like u would if u put these on a gas vehicle, hence the reason some guys claim no power increase.

ok now we are on our way to SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. we will be there sometime early tomm afternoon. we are pulling a 20' deep hull crestliner with 2 engines on the back. then we are picking up a fully enclosed 24' trailerwith a race ready race car n spare parts n taking it to NORTH CAROLINA. I WILL PULL ACROSS A SCALE N C WHAT WE WIEGHT BEFORE WE START OUR CROSS COUNTRY ADVENTURE..

thekidfan i am glad to help other members out and let them know exactly how these are going to work under what conditions!!! i am lucky enough to have the time to test this out in the real world so i might as well share the info to either help someone make a good choice or a bad choice depending on what they intend to pull and were. keep watching and we will c how well these pan out to be!!

How many Amps are the fans drawing when running?
Any idea what the horsepower difference is between running the stock mechanical fan versus the extra load on the alternator with the electric fans?
