Engine Speed Sensor
Engine Speed Sensor
Thought I had one out, so I put a new one in. I didn't know about the trick of using the credit card or non-magnetic feeler gage to set the gap. I used a regular old feeler gage to do it. Still no tach, A/C, Cruise. Could using a regular feeler gage cause this? It was a little hard to get it out, because of the magnetic pull, but I did re-check the gap with a credit card after I found out my mistake and it seems ok. Did I just ruin the new ESS?
Don't worry about the steel feeler gauge. I've set dozens of them with a steel gauge with no trouble. The problem with the steel is that the sensor's magnetism affects the feel of the gauge as you slide it in and out to measure clearance.
