Engine serial number for trottle cable?

My throttle cable is stretched out and I need to replace it. I did a search on here and read about the recall update. Checked my truck and it has the update. So I went to the Dodge dealer and asked for a cable the parts guy said he neede the engine serial number? I said it has the recall update. He said that the cable is spacific to the engine and he needed the serial number. Is this correct? Just wanted to check before I go crawling around my engine to fine the number.

Yes, and the number is on the data tag on the front cover.

I got the numbers off the cover and went to the dealer and the parts guy looked it up and said it shows trottle cable pack $97.00 I asked him what came in the pack and he said it dosen't say. I told him I only needed the cable and gave him a part # for just the cable I got from a search on here. He looked it up and said it shows the same thing and it is $97.00. I told him I didn't need the cable that bad.

I went and got a longer spring and put it on to take up the slack and it's working good. So I will wait on the new cable for a while.

If you have a Cummins dealer close by you should find it at a lower price!

Use the part number from the recall and see if it's cheaper> http://dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/970.htm
It's been several years but last time I paid $32 for it.
