Emergency 12v Throttle Linkage.Problem.
Hey guys, truck is a 1998 12v/Nv4500.
Traveling down I-75 and for off on an exit. Shifted 2-3 and my throttle went dead. Truck is idling, pedal is slack. I clutched it into 3rd and got to a parking lot. Pop the hood and the throttle linkage came loose. Its the ball/socket joint closest to the cab. It won't pop back on because there is a clear rubber "condom" (for lack of a better term) that goes on the ball is torn. What is that part (condom) called and where can I get one? In the meantime, I'm going to MacGyver something. Thinking about replicating the condom with some layered latex glove fingers and finding somewhere to hook a zip-tie. Can't help you with a quick fix, sounds like the nylon lining on the ball socket fell out.
Here is a print of the linkage for you to use when you order parts though. Attachment 39472 Attachment 39473 Attachment 39474 |
Had the same thing happen to me as ARbowhunter7 today. Towing a horse, but thankfully only 1/2 mile from destination so wife rode the rest of the way. [laugh]
Quick fix was to just tighten up on the linkage so the bushing side doesn't fall off the ball. I tried ziptie-ing it but it wouldn't stay on for one, then wouldn't move for another. [verymad] A'course, now my idle is a snibby under 1000rpm. [duhhh] Anyhow, thanks for the part number patdaly,, I'll be on the horn to the *********** tomorrow to fix it properly.
