Do I need new injectors?

Here in Colorado we have a prety tough test to pass every year and my truck with the mods in sig always passed easily until I needed a new lift pump.

Anyway, I put that in and it cleaned up most of the smoke, but what it does is during the 40mph lug test burps a black ball of smole with grey smoke on each end. Tester said this can indicate a hanging injector (OVERFUELING THE CYLINDER).
Besides the loss of efficeincy it puts my truck very close to failing the test so I need to address this at some point soon.

Anyone know injector failure symptoms or have experienced similar oneslike mine?
Is it worth the cost to have the injectors tested or just go for a 6 knife replacement and skip it.

Thanks

Jimmy

at 230k a fresh set of injectors certainly wudnt hurt anything, that being said it may not necessarily be THE problem. where do you have your fuel plate set? full forward?

If you really believe it to be a hanging injector, you may be able to save some coin by trying a good injector cleaner/fuel additive. I might try a $16.00 bottle of Howe's Meaner Cleaner over a few tanks before spending 400.00 plus on injectors.

Reason:
One of my cylinders was hammering very bad when the engine was cold, making ugly smoke. It seemed like a hanging / gummed injector. Halfway through the first tank of Howe's, it stopped hammering in the mornings. I won't make any MPG claims because there are too many variables, but I do know my truck no longer sounds like a rod bearing is on the way out and I have not yet had to spend the money on injectors. There are other cleaner brands for sure, but I believe that one helped my truck, so I will not hesitate to get more if I need it. Good luck on the smog test.

Almost always the first symptom of a injector that needs replacing is knocking.

In my case, I'm still saving up money - I know it is coming eventually.

And there is knocking. Like a little hammer peening on an anvil...

I'll try an additive but hate spending money on snake oil

The fuel plate is not maxed out. Its set so that I get good power when needed... but it still will take out the TC if I used all the throttle available under load if I don't govern it myself. Way better than stock, and when the new tranmission goes in I will be in nervana.

J-

BTW should I stay with stocck injectors or go up to stock meant for the manual trans? I don't want/need performance units. Just a good bomb proof injector. Maybe gain some fuel economy.
