Dana 60 in 4-WD Diesel Trucks?

Buddy of mine has a '98, 2500 4WD Dodge Cummins he just bought. Seller said it had a new rear-end and provided a receipt for the same. Upon running the numbers we find the rear-end is a Dana 60. So the question is, did Dodge put Dana 60's in diesel 2500 4WD trucks. I don't think they did, but I'm not a 4-WD guy. Anybody know?

Dana 60 only went up front, 70 or 80 in rear with any diesel. D60 was in 3/4 tons with 318 or 360 V8 as a rear differential.

Probably got a rear end out of a yard for a 3/4 ton Dodge, not knowing the difference.

Here's a picture of the rear-end. Does the rear cover look like a Dana 60?

Looks like a 70 to me . Backing plates look different than my Dana60 . I think rear covers are the same between 60 and 70. Right hand lower housing there should be a number cast into case , as in 60 H or 70 H . Look for that

The 60 and 70 are quite hard to tell apart for these years. Same axle tube diameter, and diff cover.

Look for an extra shiny spot on where the driveshaft slip joint is. That would indicate the driveshaft is extended more because the Dana 60 pinion is shorter by a good inch.
