Cummins 5.9L 12V 1998 wth 15k original miles

Hi,

Im able to get a Cummins 5.9L 12V 1998 engine with 15k original miles.
Its in great condition, and comes with radiator, hoses etc.
I want to drop this engine into my truck. What would be the max amount I should pay for this since
these are getting very rare to come by?

Thanks
E

Around here a fully dressed 12V goes for no more than $1500-2000, with more than 15k miles obviously. I would be checking the ID tag and looking the block over to make sure it is a storm block, as it should be for 98. Some documentation for such a low mileage claim as well.

Only 2k?
Thats cheap. I see rebuild ones on ebay for 4_5k. But you have no idea how good the rebuilds are and how many miles they have on them. Is a low mile like this one better then a rebuilt one that had high miles?

I would rather a high mileage original built Cummins motor than a random builders rebuild.

I would pay very little more for a 15K engine over a 150K, or 250K mile engine for that matter. Jim Lane just pulled his head off his 89 with 400ish thousand miles, and the crosshatch is still there.

I would pay much more attention to how it ran than how many miles were on it.
