confirming source of air leak in fuel system

I have a 97 ram diesel that had been in storage for about 3 1/2 years. I started it and it ran good then it stalls. I have removed the fuel heater and ran a rubber hose from the fuel feed line to the fuel pump and it runs good. I replaced the short steel braided line and put a rubber hose from the metal fuel line by the frame to the fuel pump and it will not stay running. The only other source of air I can think of is at the top of the fuel tank from the sending unit. Has any one had this problem. I am not looking forward to dropping the fuel tank and figuring out how to deal with that area to fix an air leak. I have never replaced one of these sending units and don't know how those lines attach to it.

Those lines are known for rotting right on top of the tank....

goldrush, yes they are known for rotting off, easy enough fix, put in a Vulcan draw straw.

Draw Straw™ 1 1/2 in. draw tube and 1/2 in. pushlock fitting

Actually, you can pretty well tell if yours is rotted before you go much further, stick you hand up there and feel the tops of the lines coming out of the tank. If they feel scaly, then you might as well get into the replacement, if it isn't leaking air now it will very soon.

The next most common cause is the steel lines that run from the tank to the steel braided lines you replaced...... they rust out as well, they are reasonably easy to inspect though.

Lots of us just replaced everything from the tank to the engine with diesel rated hose and called it good........... If you don't want to try and figure out what you need, Larry B has done it for you with premium lines.....
