Code 41 Low ADS relay voltage

Hey Folks,

My check engine light came on 2 days ago and has been on ever since. I pulled the code and I got a code 41. According to the Haynes manual this is what the code means:

"Problem with the charging system. Occurs when battery voltage from the ADS relay is below 11.75 volts."

When driving the tach, speedo, and cruise control were all working fine which leads me to believe the crank sensor is still good. The in dash voltmeter is reading around 12 volts and will sometimes go up to 15. I hooked up a voltmeter to the batteries and it read 12.63v both on and off. I pulled off the alternator and had it tested at an ORielly store and was told it was still good. I also swapped the ADS relay with the Horn relay which I know works and still not charging. I believe that my voltage regulator/ ECM is shot but don't want to blow 300 bucks not knowing what is messed up.

Is there any way to have the ECM tested to make sure that it is what's wrong with my truck?

Ammar

Also would the external regulator conversion keep the Check Engine light on?

Voltage all over the place!

Okay I did the external voltage regulator mod and now my voltage fluctuates from 12.3V to 15.8V and also have 2 more codes added to the one I already have. [verymad]

41 Generator field not switching properly
42 Auto shutdown relay circuit
46 Charging system voltage too high

Anybody???

Now my **** truck wont start. I think I fried the fuel shutdown solenoid.

It just blew the fuse. I'm ordered a new PCM the heck with this conversion.

Don't be surprised if the new PCM doesn't correct the problem.
I've lost count of how many folks I know who ended up with two good PCMs.
Problem is almost always a bad connection at the PCM, not the PCM itself although sometimes just the act of replacing the PCM will wiggle the connectors around enough to restore the connection.
It won't last though.

Yes, I thought that too because sometimes when my truck isnt charging all I have to do is drive it for a certain amount of time and it will start charging back up agian. It's worth a try for me. I appreciate the reply.
