clutch issues

Hey Everyone!

I am looking for some advice. I have a 96 2500 5 speed 4x4 with a #10 plate, 4gsk spring, 60lb valve springs 191 dv, intake and exhaust. I was on my way home and hit some stop and go traffic. After the traffic I was clear sailing. Iwas running about 55 and decide to pass a car when i got into it the truck pulled hard then the clutch started to slip. I let out of it and tried it again same thing the clutch was slipping. So i called about clutches and of course all i was told was to go with a dual disc and be done with it. $1600.00 is a hard pill to swollow right now. But if i need it i need it. I use the truck daily and pull a car trailer and a boat every now and then nothing over 10k! So i needed to make a dump run today and on the way to the dump i cracked into it 3 times with no slipping? I baby the truck dont race it or sled pull with it but do bust a civic every now and then from a stop light. My question to you guys is 1 do i need a new clutch or was that a fluke? 2 do i really need to put a daul disc in. I dont plan on upgradeing anything else cause it is a truck not a race car. But i will not rule out that i may get a bigger turbo or something in the future. But have no plans of it right now. Nor with in the next 2 years.
Thanks for your help!

If the clutch slipped twice, it will slip again.
I bought the biggest SBC single disk off Lary 4/5 years ago.
I believe it is called the CON-OFE
I make about 800 FT LBs and tow a 10,000 trailer most of the time I drive my '01.
I have about 100,000 miles on that clutch with NO slipping.
I would say a dual disk is overkill unless you are going to sled pull often AND make LOTS of power.

Thank you for your input thats what i was thinking but did not know for sure. Did you have to upgrade the input shaft when you did your clutch?

No, you don't have to, I would say if you haven't twisted your input shaft by now, you probably won't.

I've got a dual disc waiting for my clutch to dump, hasn't yet..... But I second and third giving Lary a call, he won't steer you wrong either DD or CON-OFE, and will give you a great price. I jumped on the DD back when they had a price you couldn't refuse sale.

As for what clutch to use, I would call Peter at SB and get his advice as well..........

On the CON-OFE about the only negative I have heard is some say it is grabby when backing.....no personal experience with it though.

WOW..... I never knew how much goes into buying a clutch. all the differant options, horsepower, tq and makers. I was talking with a guy I know who owns a couple pulling trucks and he asked me if i called Kennys pulling parts about a clutch. I have never heard of them? So i looked thier web sight up and found that they offer a clutch for my application. I tried to do research on them but no luck. I was wondering has anyone used one of these clutches? or has anyone heard of them? After speaking with him on the phone he seems to know alot and explained things to me. I am not saying that southbend is not good cause that is what i am looking to go with right now. I am just exploring other options?
Thanks
Eric

Kenny's is well respected, but is probably a bit pricier than SB.

From what I see, he is about the top in competition clutches.....

SB is just more mainstream.

I have not run one, but a fair amount of the pullers around here use his, and I cannot remember a single bad comment about his product.

I know I would have zero hesitation running either a SB or a Kennys.
