Cat on a 96?
Cat on a 96?
Did the 96 2500's and 3500's come from the factory with a cat?
I found one place that said they did, but can not find one anywhere. The DMV said I have to have all the emission crap on there when it gets inspected to be switched to a diesel.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't want to take any chance of it not being right, it only has to get checked one time for them to change the registration, then the straight pipe goes back on. The other diesel's I have owned when it came time for the normal yearly inspection, they just change the sticker, never checked anything and I'm own my way.

I am not sure if all 96's came with cats- as it had been reported some has resonators in line with the mufflers. I know in emission states like MA and CA they did have cats tho most inspection stations have no idea (and wouldn't believe me if I said it was a cat "no, diesel's don't have cats") so would have no idea if something was missing.
MA changed their diesel inspection rules recently requiring emissions inspection of most diesels (used to be emission exempt) but 1996 specifically are exempt. Pre OBD2 are tested one way (up to 95), post OBD are tested onboard, 1996 is singled out as exempt as there are only a handful of 1996 diesel's on the road in the state (official explanation!!)

Starting Jan 1, 1994 all 12 valves sold in the US came with a cat.
The only 12 valves without a cat were early '94s.
