Can I grind away rear drum to fit wheels

I can't believe the tires/wheels combo I just bought don't fit the rear. Appears to be original Dodge wheels 8 lug 6.5 spacing and proper hub hole size just catches a little on the edge of the drum. I'd love to grind off an 1/8" of the drum lip where it is very thick. Does there need to be more room for flex? Someone mentioned I may have 3500 drums on a 2500 truck .

Its common to grind/turn the drums on 94-98 trucks to fit those 16x8 alum wheels. I have to do mine sometime. I read about one guy jacking the truck up, putting it in gear, and use an angle grinder while the drum turns.

The wheel should clear the 1-ton drum (DRW) easily (major inboard offset)... and that drum won't fit on a SRW axle.

Thank you. I did just that. Angle grinder, spinning in gear. Worked great.

I needed new drums anyway so when I got some 2007? 16X8 aluminum rims I just took a rim down to the machine shop with the new drums and told them to make them fit. Next set of tires were some 17" steel take-offs from a new truck so the drum issue was not a problem.
