BBWD, I think you look under the injection pump to see if "53" is stamped into the block there. ?? Anybody have a pic of exactly where to look?

You will find the embossed cast numbers on the front bottom of your engine block, right above the pan rail.

Jim you're pushing 706/1350 on a #53??? WOW....really???
I wouldn't worry about it anyway but Piers has never had a problem with a 12V (53) I did talk to Van Haisley about it and he had changed 2 of those out with issues, told me mine should be fine now with the miles I have on it, it not like the 53's are prone to kicking a rod out, even if it did who could I blame except me being at this power level.......give me a little time and I'll try to push it higher.

Re:Can 12V's have the 53 block?
I have a 98 12V that is not a 53 block. I have about 4 small numbers where the 53 would be that are about 1/2" high. From what I understand this was the "mexican block" that had the thicker jackets still.
Re:Can 12V's have the 53 block?
Here is a picture of the 53 on my 98.5 ISB block. Look in the inspection mirror. I would think the casting series numbers on a 12V would be in the same place -- lower block area above the oil pan flange on the driver's side.
