Broken Throttle linkage????
 

Ok over the weekend I broke what I thought was called the throttle linkage.
I call my local D.C. dealer and they tell me that its a recall item that they have already replaced but they will recall it again. So I take it up there and they work on it for 1.5 hrs and I leave "No Charge" I get home and raise the hood to look at the work and see that the old part is still there.:confused: They did replace the trottle cable and.
So I go back up and tell the service manager that the broken part is still on the truck. When I point it out to him he tells me that this part is not part of the recall.[eyecrazy]
It is a small rod with right handed threads on one end and left handed threads on the other with a ball joint connection on each end. It runs from the thottle cable linkage to the actual throttle on the injector pump. They don't sell the little rod alone, instead I must buy the whole assembly for 45.00![yuk]
So can anyone tell me where I might find that little rod with backwards threads on one end?

I wish I could get a free cable under warranty... the end on mine is worn out (the plastic cup), and it's just a matter of time.. $211 for that stupid cable.

Well it seems that part number has been superceded and they only offer the whole package for $45.00. [eyecrazy] [yuk]
I just wonder if I could just get that little rod from a hardware or autoparts store?

Something's wrong here, they must have misquoted you. Unless things changed between '97 and '98, I bought the cable kit for a '97 just two weeks ago for $41.

I remember reading something about being able to buy the rod ends, etc. at John Deere for a lot less money. I had even written the part #'s down. Sorry, don't have the slip of paper any more. Maybe this will jog somebody elses memory.

I don't need the rod ends. I need the little rod that has the left handed threads on one end and the regular threads on the other. It's about6 to 8 inches long.

If you can't find the rod any where and I wouldn't know where to find one with left handed threads and if you don't want to spend the $45.00, you could try splicing it (depending on where it broke) with one of those long nut from a hardware store they use for splicing all-thread. Just thread the ends where it broke and use loctite or jam nut to keep it from comming loose.

Hmmm good thought.
