Broke parts in transmission pan...

This can't be good. Installed a shift kit in the valve body today. First thing I found was a broken accumulator spring. The kit comes with a new one so no big deal. Then the last thing I do is clean the pan and stuck to the magnet is this huge chunk of transmission.

Bought the truck less than two years ago with 170k on it. Well cared-for two owner truck. Transmission shifts pretty good. I figured I would install the Transgo while doing a fluid/filter change and then see how many more miles I can get out of the trans while I save money for a strong trans & torque converter. Then I can bump up the power. I have a 100 plate. I guess I better not install it just yet.

I don't think I'll adjust the bands either. I better just put everything back together and hope it goes down the road.

I don't know if this image link will work. Anyone recognize this broken part?

Well, I don't know what that broken piece is but I got it all back together and filled with fresh ATF4 and what a huge difference the Transgo makes. Stock tranny and TC. Under light throttle you can't feel it shift. With more throttle it shifts nice and quick. No longer soft, mushy, or vague. And lockup isn't a long drawn-out affair anymore. It locks right now. It's not hard, it just locks fast and firm. Definitely worth around a hundred bucks and a day and a half of my time. Drinks are on me

From your picture, the other piece looks like part of the large snap ring that is used to hold the frictions & steels in place, possibly from the front drum. It was hard to get an idea of how long the piece was, but if it was under 2" you might be ok. If it was longer than that who knows... If the rest of the snap ring fails you will likely lose reverse.

I'm trying to think of how the forces actually act on the clutch pack, and I think you should be OK. If you get bored one day and want to drop the transmission it isn't hard to replace the snap ring, or if you lose reverse you know what the problem is.

It's a big piece, about 4" long. I thought it might be a retaining ring too. If it is, it's a pretty big one. I bet I'll know it the instant the rest of it comes out.

to crank up the converter l/u the transgo kit it came with new front pump sealing rings (the blue ones).
get a gasket and make another weekend out of installing em, at the same time you can check the drums and replace that ring. you can wait till it fails but the longer ya wait the more hard parts likely to get destroyed.
the broken acc. spring is pretty normal they do that alot.
