brake and power steering groan

In my 1998 12valve the brakes "groan" when I push on them and the steering "groans" when I turn the wheel. I haven't driven it for a while and it was about 15F outside today. Is this just a cold weather issue or isn't something getting ready to give up on me?

Why are 12v hard to start in the winter? New batteries, maintained, 160,000miles on engine etc. My newer trucks start just fine but the old 98 is a bear.

The common Part in this is your Power steering pump, on your truck used on both steering and brakes, try changing over to synthetic PS fluid.

Not all 12v are hard to start, mine takes another turn or two in the winter but I expect that. Are you using the block heater? Giving it part throttle when starting?
