I was thinking the same thing,I had a similar prob.with one of my old gassers.
I was proactive and bought a handful of screen filters and put one inline about 18" after the Hellman. I figured on changing it every couple of tanks for the next couple months just to be safe,I hope to make it until spring,than if need be,, pull the tank again. It's beat working in 20 degrees with snow on the ground(I have no garage).

took a 40 mile jaunt this evening and happy to report so far so good,Its snowing here now with close to a foot expected,actually looking foward to driving to work tomarrow morning

Quick update,300 trouble free miles,runs like a champ.
B.T.W. Hellman sump def. worth it. ran all the way to empty before filling and no low tank issues.
