Jack up the front tires off of the ground, fill reservoir with fluid and turn steering wheel back and forth until steering is easy again.

bleeding steering

Iagree with Mr jimmy on the jacking up and cranking wheel end to end but do it with engine off and you will get less of a mess.
just did it yesterday! replaced steering box.

thanx guys!!!! do i keep the cap closed or open when doing it?

It's easier to see when you need to add fluid with the cap off (duhh) and with the engine off, you shouldn't get much if any spray. The cap doesn't make a perfectly airtight seal, so you could do it with the cap on.

Buffalo, eh? I went to college in Fredonia. I'm near Binghamton, now.:)

thanx guys...can u believe they wouldnt sell me the power steerign return line at NAPA or carquest ? they only sell the hose...without any fittings (my fitting rusted through and cracked) it required some fancy welding at home ..ticks me off

G1625S 07-29-2006 01:47 PM

Yup, you gotta shop around when it comes to PS hoses. Advance had my pressure line right in stock, which surprised me, but wanted to sell me hose and clamps for the return line, even though it obviously has some complicated steel line as well (which was what rotted on me). I went to every parts store in town...same deal. Stopped at a Parts Plus that I had never been to, the guy looked it up, went to the back and pulled the exact hose I needed out of the box...fittings, bends and all. 12 bucks! Who'd a thunk it?!
