black goo in turbo????

black goo in turbo????

A buddy of mine took apart his he351ve to inspect it and we found a rubber goo like substance almost like rubberized undercoating all over the inside of the compressor housing and the compressor wheel. what is it? any ideas???

no he is running a bhaf but he bought the turbo used so its possible that a k&n was on it. it was on there pretty thick and on everything. so a k&n is a possibility for the problem?

EDIT: I just read that it's an HE351VE. I was thinking HX35... Either way, could be dirty filter, or sucking oil from bearing housing.

I am around a lot of big truck engines all the time when the turbo inside is dirty they claim the fuel your running .

That is an interesting concept

The compressor side of the turbo is up stream of the cylinder where the fuel is actually injected after the valves are closed and the air between the cylinder and the compressor is under positive pressure. So how does the fuel affect the cleanliness of the turbine blades ?????????????


I would be looking for a leak in the filtered air stream to the turbo, an over oiled filter, a bad oil seal or a large amount of play in the turbo shaft bearings allowing oil to get around the seal.
