Barring tool for 1995 2500 Dodge Ram PU

According to the Dodge Service Manual there is a tool called a barring tool to rotate the engine by hand to adjust the valves, time the injectors or etc.. I have had no luck in finding one. My local Dodge Dealer's parts department says they can not or will not order one. The local Snap On dealers says he doesn't have one and can't or won't order one. The Snap On number is SP371- The MTE number is 3377371. Any suggestion where I might purchase one. <br>Sam

You can buy these directly from Cummins for less than the cost of the Snap-On version.

You definatley need to find a new snap-on guy. He should order you whatever you want. Snap-on has a website but I am not sure if you have to be a dealer to order from there. Might want to give it a try. I believe it was $34 from Snap-on. Hope this helps.

Save your money and turn the engine at the fly wheel with a screw driver at the dust cover.

I got mine at NAPA. You can borrow it if you pay shipping there and back but you should be able to get it for near what it would cost you for shipping.

I've also seen people turn the engine with the generator nut.

I was reading the Cummins manual for my `92 motorhome with a B59 in it. On this motor, Cummins has a TDC alignment pin which when you can push it in, you get TDC on Piston 1. Pretty neat! Just mark and rotate the index pulley around each time to get TDC on the other pistons.

Just don't forget to pull out the alignment pin before your crank your motor!

lots of guys rotate the motor w/ the alternator nut... I bought a barring tool so that I could torque the flywheel on properly, but for setting valves, most guys use the alt nut.
