bad u-joint a problem to drive on?

I have a bad u-joint in the front axle. I have been driving around with it like that for months. Just wondering how important it is to fix this problem? What kind of damage am i doing? Should i replace all u-joints and ball joints when i decide to repair?

I drove on mine for a few months too. As long as the caps arent gone inside the yokes you'll be fine. If not it could be causing damage to the yokes $$. You dont need to remove ball joints when you do this. Just press the hub assembly off and slide the axle out. Mine took me a whole day taking my time. But I also did pads, rotors, calipers, etc.

if you continue to drive with a bad outer u-joint you will ruin the axle seal.

Seals

That's right, when the yokes start wobbling due to u-joint play the seals will fail. The right one is pretty easy to change----the left one requires you to drop the differential which riquires you to pull the right side/yoke assembly out as well. I hope it's your right side sd
