Axle oil
Hey guys
I am changing the oil in my axles! What brand and what weight would you guys put in the front and rear axles! I dont want to run any junk stuff!! The truck is a 96 12 valve 4xd with a 177k on it! Thanks for your help! |
I put 75w90 synthetic in my rear axle. I think it was Castrol, but I don't think the brand matters a whole lot, as long as you don't go with some super-cheap department store brand. I don't think I'd bother with anything heavier, like 75w140, unless I was constantly towing super heavy, in real hot climates.
As far as the front axle goes, I don't think synthetic has as much of a benefit there unless you see some real cold weather. The synthetic can help the CAD engage faster in the cold, according to the bulletin. |
Royal Purple 75w90 synthetic every 100k miles.
Make sure to fill to Dana's specs, 3/4" below the bottom of the fill plug in front, 1/2" below in the rear. Filling to the bottom of the hole guarantees a leak in your future. |
