auto transmission doing wierd things
 

My 1995 Dodge transmission is doing some wierd things. At speeds over 60 and up (I don't go much over 70) the transmission acts like it has a quarter gear that it keeps shifting in and out of. The rpms jump about 2-300 and I can hear and feel the difference. It is not shifting in and out of overdrive. It "shifts" up and down every few seconds until I change my speed, bang on the dashboard, turn up the radio and ignore it, etc. It does it in and out of cruise control. It is kind of unpredictable, I get up to about 53 and feel fourth gear come in and lots more power, but then when I get over 60 it sometimes does this. Seems like it does it more when its hot and not under a load, just cruising. The truck has only 114,000 and everything seems in perfect order. Is this normal, or can I make it stop somehow?

Try a manual TC lockup switch. Query a search on here or someone will chime in with the link for one.

Yep; its just your TC locking, and unlocking. The TC locking is what you descirbed as overdrive. That is when it really puts the power to the ground. A manual TC lockup switch will keep this from happening, but you may be able to fix it by just cleaning your TPS good. Do a search for both, and you will find some good info. Good luck.

It's the TC unlocking. Try cleaning the battery terminals, clean the ground connectors under the battery( get down to bare metal). Wrap tin foil around the heavy wire from the alternator to the battery- then wrap the foil with tape.
The cause of the problem is electrical noise spikes. Also bad batteries can be the cause.
