Auto tranny questions

Hi,

I had just bought a 96 dodge ram 2500 ext cab 4x4 cummins. For $1500. Some kids stole the radiator intercooler tranny cooler and some interior parts. I was wondering. Since the tranny is pretty much empty of fluid. Will the torque converter refill itself if i just keep adding fluid with the truck in neutral? it has some fluid but not alot. seems how they cut the lines to the cooler the cooler is the lowest part so im guessing alot of the fluid ran out.

Thanks for the help,

Kody

The truck will have to be running to get all the way filled, but once you start the truck the convertor will fill itself. and check or top off in neutral with eng running.

Yes! Follow advice from 'jnicewan'!
There is a check valve (ball) that holds fluid in the valve body/converter so may not be so drained. Just don't drive it till you have tranny is close to topped off.
If you need an intercooler...send me a pm. I've got a used factory spare at a great price! Let us know where you are?

Hey,

thanks for the info.

So i can just start it up and put it in neutral to fill it? I get my radiator wednesday and i got an intercooler yesterday. I am pretty good for parts.

You guys got any ideas on how to get the intercooler in place? It is very tight. I was thinkin of taking the bumper off and sliding it in. I took the top bar of the radiator support off thinking i could just drop it in. nope.

here are a few pictures of it.

I got my used intercooler for $200 so im thinking that is a **** good price. it has been pressure tested and guaranteed to not have any leaks.

It feels so good to say i have a cummins now. it has been almost three months since dad's was wrecked. and i have not driven a cummins since

Thank you all for the help. I will more than likely be active here since i now have a cummins.

Need to remove the bumper for the (CAC, charge air cooler, is the engineers term) intercooler!
great price on the replacement.
The radiator "drops in" easily but the CAC is a whole different thing.

Your purchase price is almost too good to be true?
Hope not too many surprises!

Yep.

And i got the intercooler in without removing the bumper. There is no radiator in it so i just dropped it down. then removed the top of the radiator support. and then slid it into place. Very simple i was surprised.

the truck doesn't seem to run right. it is kinda rough and smokes white a bit. I haven't been able to run it long yet because of the no radiator. on Wednesday i will warm it up and see if it clears out. I am thinkin it might just be bad fuel in the lines.

Yea i was surprised when i saw that price. I called immediatly and bought it the same day.

I will post more later,

Thanks again guys

It could be air in the fuel lines from sitting for a while if there's a small air leak, and if it doesn't clear up well after warming up I think your timing might be off.

last wednesday i got the new radiator in and hooked all that up. I got to run and drive the truck around for the first time. I reved the truck a couple of times and it sputtered but it eventually caught up and now it runs good. It is very cold blooded so it is a good thing i have a place to plug the truck in since winter is coming.

yesterday i bought a dana 60 front axle out from under a V10 2500. It has 4.10's and i paid $400 for it. I am just gonna take the shafts out of it because mine were cut. then ima save the calipers brake pads and rotors ( the rotors are like new ). so far i have about $1000 into this truck. And it is pretty much ready to go. I just need to do the front axle shaft stuff and get all the brake measurements and tires tread measures take them to my Buddy's shop in town and he will get me an inspection sticker.

I can't wait to get this thing on the road and hopefully within a week or so i will be able to drive it.

Thanks for all the help you guys gave me,
