anyone ever tighten the kickdown band too tight?

anyone ever tighten the kickdown band too tight?

...anyone know happens if you do?

Rapid band wear is the result.
Overtightening is the reason most diesel tranny experts say not to adjust the bands unless you are experiencing slippage.

...well that sucks. mines not wanting to start off in 1st gear. it'll do fine if i put it in first manually. it'll do it more-so when it's warmed up.

You may have a failing gov. pressure sensor and trans ducer. They are on the valvebody. About $150, if you do it yourself.

95 is all hydraulically controlled 47RH, so no gov pressure solenoid to worry about like in the 47RE. The only electronics are the lock up and overdrive solenoids. Give Dave Georend a call or do a search, I remember this being discussed a few times before but don't remember what the culprit is. Make sure you only look at threads with 94-95 transmissions (47RH)

kickdown band

if one tightens until the drum wont turn only have second gear. will bind up in 3rd and reverse. if one can turn the drum with ones hand nothing will happen.

i also dropped the tranny pan/fluid, changed the filter and put castrol multi-somthing atf back in. do you guys think it could be the fluid???

band

wouldnt care if one used motor oil it would work ok for a while. the first trans in the late 30s and early 40s used motor oil.
