Amsoil MTG in NV4500, experiences?

Has anyone been running this lube in their NV for a significant amount of time, say 100k? Anyone replace the syntorq in a good used trans w/ amsoil as maintenence? Just wondering what everyone's experience w/ this lube is. Thanks

I have been running MTG is the 4500 on my 2001 for just over 120,000km

No issues to report, no hard shifting, no accelerated wear problems, just smooth operation, and less than 1/3 the cost of syntorque.

It's your money, your truck. I just changed my fluid out, and bought the Syntorq, big bucks, but it's like a new transmission now. There is NOT a substitute fluid out there that meets Syntorq's exact specifications FWIW.

I just installed a Torque King kit and refilled with the Amsoil... Its been about 1000 miles and I have to say im not a big fan. Though it has been smoothing out, when everything is warmed up, the shifts are slightly notchy and the transmission is noisy when its spinning with NO load on it, such as at idle in neutral or coasting in neutral both with clutch engaged.

I am going to give it another month and if I am still unsatisfied I will be replacing with SynTorq.

Way I figure it since you don't have to replace the tranny fluid all that often it's no big deal money wise to just use the recommended fluid, Syntorq.

I liked Royal Purples GL4 better than the Amsoil and the syntorque FWIW.

Then again, I also changed my fluid every 20,000 miles. Fluid is cheap and trannys arent.

I liked Royal Purples GL4
Beware!!!
There have been two people I know of whose syncros were eaten by Royal Purple and trannies had to be rebuilt.
Bet there are plenty more out there who used it and don't know what killed their tranny.
I wouldn't use it.

I'm running Amsoil, but don't have much time on it yet. It actually shifts BETTER than before, but I don;t know what was in it, as the truck was used and had the 5th gear nut problem before

I first switched to Amsoil about 2 years ago and it was done (dare I say) in a lube shop.[duhhh] They vacuumed the syntorq out and refilled with Amsoil. It did improve the shifting for awhile but I wasn't happy. So I drained the Amsoil out by removing the side plate then cleaned the gearbox out properly, which is what should have been done the first time. Anyway after refilling with Amsoil it was a completely different gear box. While the Amsoil lube was not available when the truck was built, Amsoil does say it is for use in the NV4500 and they stand behind it. Works for me.[coffee]

I've used Amsoil and got more than 100k out of a 4500. I change oil at 50k. I've used both and got less than 100k on a rebuild with both. I think it is a good replacement.

Yes. If you ask them for Castrol Syntorq, they might look at you goofy. Go on quad4x4's site, they have both the GM and dodge P/N for it.

Thanks,
Luckily my Auto comes next week.[coffee]
I only put 300 miles on the royal purple, its now in a 5 gal. bucket, and the trans is on its way to its new owner.

The RP is GL4 rated.

SCARY thing is Blumenthals says to run a synthetic 80/140 gear oil[nonono]
