? about Free GSK

Is it better to use the Free GSK washer Mod or to pay the 100 for the kit? I'm good with mechanical work but never been in the pump except for the fuel plate. I also worry about screwing something up because I usually have my 3 kids in the truck and don't want to mess something up with the throttle. Thanks Pete

The free GSK sometimes takes a little more adjusting to make it work quite right, and is more touchy on some years. I didn't follow the thread real close b/c I had bought the springs when it got started. Have you read the whole thread? I have been very happy with the springs.

I tried the free gsk in mine before i bought the kit and couldn't get it to work right. Very sensitive pedal compared to the "actual" spring kit and the the throttle would hang up in the upper rpms. I think it is well worth the 100 bucks for the springs.

Thanks, that is what I figured. I saw that a lot were having trouble with the washers. I'll just buy the kit. Who has the best price?

I have run the free washer mod for quite a while, and now I think I will come across with 100 bucks for a 4k gsk.

I had washers in my '95 and they functioned, but it took quite a bit of adjusting and the throttle was extremely touchy. I'd just get the kit if I were to do it agian.

I've been running the washers with no problems. I never had to re-adjust anything, not even the idle. I put it in the first time, started it up, and it ran great!

same here i followed the thread to a t from http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...d.php?p=165523 and it was perfect, never adjusted anything after. the secret is to not tighten the nuts to where they were, but to what the thread says.

^Yea, I think I ended up with a 0.041" stud protrusion vs. the 0.050" stock protrusion. Used a pair of digital calipers. The washer mod is a great mod that feels exactly the same as the real gsk according to owners who have had both. Although, PETE, I see you have a '97. For some reason the washer mod didn't respond as well to a '97. So I guess you're better off with the real gsk anyway.

It seems to me that i have heard of the washer gsk working quite well in the smaller pumps, It was my experience, and some of the others on here that the 97-98 215 pumps react differently to the washer gsk than the smaller pumps. In my application i experinced a a perfect idle after a few adjustments, and it fueled hard to 3000+ rpms, but would not return to an idle unless forced to by stepping on the brake while in gear. But it does run fine with the gsk springs
