97 trans problems HELP
97 Dodge 12v. Rebuilt BD trans mission 50K ago. TC also changed at that time
Fluid changed and quantity cks ok.
Problem: Won't shift into reverse or overdrive.
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm 73 and do my own wrenching. I am not looking forward to pulling this Trans.

John, you are a brave man to even CONSIDER pulling the trans at age 73. I'm 70 and I'd never try it.
Personally I'd take it back to whoever rebuilt it and ask them to check the valve body, in fact I'd ask them to check the entire trans.

Before you get nuts, send a PM to one of our members, Angry Johhny, he is on the first gen portion. He is a Chrysler master tech and has forgotten more about these than most know.
Perhaps you won't have to pull the trans at all.

I'd take off the pan and look at the rear band adjustment first..
(This should tell you the cause for no reverse gear)
Also look for dirt and debris, and check that the transmission filter is clear (or install a new one)
Does the TC lock up when you switch to OD off?
Next step would be to check the OD solenoid and the TC Lockup solenoid with an ohmmeter from the PCM side- may be as little as a broken wire, or a bad solenoid.
Do you have a factory service manual for your truck? (The Haynes and Chilton stuff seems to have some errors regarding the electrical portion of these trucks)
