97 "revs" as it hits idle after decelerating

I just bought a all stock 5 speed 97. I notice if I rev it up or while decelerating between shifting gears as it comes down in rpm's to idle it seems to "rev" up a split second... almost like I bump the throttle pedal between gears. I've heard that could be a governor out of adjustment??? Anyone have any ideas to check??

I just checked and the tamper proof screw on AFC is replaced... the original owner is retired older guy and said it was all stock but had a mechanic always maintain it... he must have slid his plate forward or changed it but its been opened up. Could the governor arm be out of adjustment causing this issue? I plan to get 3k spring kit and slide plate ahead, I am just looking for fuel milage and 625-675 ft lbs to pull trailers (rv's) up hills without downshifting. Will the 3k or 4k spring kit make the throttle real "jerky" or can it be adjusted so its smooth? A guy told me he had 4k in his and driving slow on a bumpy driveway it was kinda "jerky"... any info/opinions will be helpful

I checked return spring... it was kinda soft so I re-bent it shorter and also added another spring that has about the same tension. It still does the slight "rev up" when returning to idle.... Any other ideas???

To me thats totally normal. Mine does it all the time and is more pronounced when the engine is cold. It will really drop fast and the governor is slower to react to recover idle speed.

well, I guess I never noticed it in my past two 12 valves as they were both auto's... but it seemed odd to me cause it will do it between shifts too....

I never noticed it with my auto 12V either, but my greenie is 100 percent totally unadulterated bone stock and does it when cold.

I wouldn't get excited, sounds to me like the governor just catching it.

The 5 spd trucks really notice it, especially if you are doing low rpm shifts. If mine is winter cold, it drops pretty hard then burps enough to smoke on recovery.

Mine's the same. I noticed it did it more after I put in the 4k kit. 3k wasn't nearly as pronounced.

Never noticed if my 5 speed does it, rarely let it drop to idle when shifting in order to keep the turbo from burping.
Have to pay better attention next time I drive it.

My '97...

with a five speed has always done it - I'm getting to where I like it! Though it's not quite as pronounced as the one in the video - more like a little burp sounds mean.
