Couple things fuel related, air in fuel from fuel supply/return line leaks, weak overflow valve and possibly slipped timing.

Does is do this warm or cold or both?

If its been sitting, even the fuel quality would be an issue. Try some diesel fuel additive in the tank to try and take care of any water issues too. But the fuel lines would be my first check.

Personally I am not a fan of removing the plate.

Well I changed the fuel filter. It cleaned up the greyish blue smoke but it stil mised. Then yesterday I ground my fuel plate an slid every thing forwerd. It helped some then I went for a drive and when I got back the mis was gone.
