Cruising at 75 when started hearing a whining then smelt burning grease smell. Truck will only move in third now. What could be the problem? Pulled side cover offf and didn't see anything wrong in there.

 

Was the oil level low? Was the oil black and burnt? Any chunks of metal rolling around in the bottom of the case?

 

Oil was black but not real low. No chunks or slithers in the bottonm

 

pull the top off and check your shift rails..

 

new one on me when i break'em all i have is fourth. the only good way to see whats wrong is to take the whole top off

 

I will check these things in the morning.

I hate to say this

but mine did that at about 45 mph, burnt grease smell, smoke out of the tower and KAPOW!! cost me a new trans..... all while towing an empty gooseneck... oh and my truck didnt move in any gear whatsoever.. ill upload pics soon.. i broke the mainshaft, and stripped the first main gear as well...
