i have a 91 2500 with an external regulator. the problem is that the alternator is not charging the system properly. I had the alternator rebuilt and it cooked a brand new battery. Now it is barely charging the system. any suggestions on what to look for? or how to approach it?

the voltage regulator is normally the cause of an overcharge on a 1st gen

 

The alt. will put out max voltage all the time that there is a demand. It's only the reg. that keeps it from cooking the batt.
