4x4 issues...vacuum line?
Seems like I cant ask enough questions, heres my latest issue: I used the 4wd on my truck probably twice, both times in a wet field. Not one week after I used it I needed it again in some sand/mud around a buddys farm (fail hunting trip) and well....no 4wd. The t-case engages, but no 4wd light and no locked hubs....not so good for me, fortunately there were plenty of chevy 4x4's around to pull me out, and yeah....ten chevy guys and one stuck dodge...not a good day for me and the ol' 97. So...what is not working? It seems to be clearly a vaccum line issue, any other ideas? If it is a vacuum line issue....how do I diagnose it and how do I fix it? Again, thanks for the help. sabreson

4x4/vac line issues
I just went throught the same thing on my 1999 and still working on it!
search - cad/ central axel disconect- lots of information on that common problem with our trucks- i went with a posi- lock system for my truck, eliminating the vacuum actuator all together- if your 97 works the same as my 99 you could have vac line issues or the cad unit itself can be bad- good luck with your truck!!

Well....I checked out all the info, and traced my lines..didn't find a single thing. I was standing in front of the truck looking down into the bay, saw a little line with a big rubber elbow hidden next to the bottom of the fuel pump. The thing was just hanging there, and one nipple on the vacuum pump was naked. Slid it back on the nipple....good god almighty, 4wd and cruise are back in business. I dont believe it, would have saved me a world of pain if I had taken 5 seconds to actually look the other day. Thanks to all...dang i'm pumped, cant believe it was that easy. sabreson
