47re, not as bad as everyone says?
I have a 1997 rclb 4x4 2500 that just hit 260k. This truck has the original 47re trans no rebuild. All that has been done is the routine fluid changes and band adjustments. I have absolutely no slippage and it shifts practically like a brand new truck. I'm not easy on it by any means being that I'm 19 years old (lol). I was just wondering, are these transmissions as bad as everyone makes them out to be? Or did I get the one in a million that hasn't failed? Judging by what everyone says I should have had 2 rebuilds by now.

They are good transmissions if respected and properly taken care of. I had over 400K miles on my 47RE, until a cooler line rubbed through and took out the transmission because of loss of fluid. As far as I know (I'm not the original owner), the trans had never been rebuilt before and it was doing well. The owner of the shop that did the rebuild (a highly reputable shop in the San Antonio area) has told me you can pull 15000# loads (or more) up grades if you "respect" the transmission.

Overall, they are one of the best out there.
As Ma. Mopar sent them to us, not so good. The Torque Converter is a major part of the reliability knock, put a good TC in, a VB calibrated to run and past that, a band strut that won't bend and you have a virtually bulletproof trans.
