47RE leak

I have a bit of an odd problem. My truck has been parked/stored out of town for the better part of a month. So yesterday Im back in town and my mom mentions that my truck started to leak a couple days ago. I check it out and sure enough there is a decent size tranny fluid spot, about 2ft x 1ft. It was getting dark so I couldn't really tell where it was coming from although it was dripping on to the skid plate and then on to the ground.
Best I could do is take it for a quick drive as I was heading back home when she mentioned it. After waiting for the torque converter to fill up I take it around the block and it seems to operate fine. I won't have a chance to get back to town for a week or so but I was wondering if any of you might have an idea what would make a tranny start leaking somewhat out of the blue. I haven't had any problems with function or leaks previously.

Thanks,
John

When they sit for long periods the torque converter drains back into the pan. This brings the fluid level in the pan up high and it can leak, at the gasket, at the dipstick tube, at the shifter shaft.
I guess it could also be a cooler line. Clean it up and look!

Thanks, I was wondering if if the drain back issue had anything to do with it. I got to thinking about it more last night and its also parked on an incline which Im sure isn't helping. I definitely plan on cleaning the undercarriage and checking it out as soon as I can.

I hope its as simple as the tranny fluid drain back. If all goes well I should be able to check it out this weekend. Ill post what I find.

Well, I finally got a chance to check out the truck. It was all a bit dirty down there so I ended up power washing everything first. I torqued the tranny pan bolts, they were fine. I then checked the tranny/transfer case bolts. I got a couple to move about an 1/8 of a turn. From what I saw down there Im pretty confident it was just the torque converter leaking back and over filling the tranny. The leak seemed to have subsided a bit since I drove it last weekend. I check it next week and go from there. Now does anyone know where to get power seat parts....

You may want to look at your front band adjustment stud, that's where mine was leaking at.
