46RH, 47RH differences

Hi all,
First an intro: I'm Ken, I live in south central Alaska. I have been following the Gen 1/2 forum for some time, learning what I could in anticipation of owning one. Now I have a 94 standard cab 4WD that I purchased last winter. I bought it with a trashed 47RH, and had a local shop rebuild it. It didn't get driven much during the winter; mostly I worked on the wore out suspension but that's another story.

The trans died within a couple hundred miles, and the rebuilder isn't standing by his work. I believe the case is defective, and the only replacement I have found so far is a 46RH case from a 92 diesel. My question for the transmission gurus is, can I marry the 92 case with the gear train, pump etc from my 94 47RH? Same question about the valve body. I don't know if the 92has a lockup converter or not, I have heard yes, and I have heard no.
It does have overdrive.
I won't bore you with the details of the troubleshooting and wrestling with the rebuilder that has convinced me that the case is bad. Long sad story.
thanks
Ken

92 does not have lockup. If the rear bands are the same, the cases are interchangeable. Not sure when they went to the wider band for low/reverse. I have a trans that came from a 92 truck (rebuilt by a nationally known reman co.)that has the later style case, so you never know till teardown what may be in there.

Thanks for the reply. Near as I can tell the lockup converter and the band change happened at the same time for the diesel trans, that being model year 1994. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. But like the man said, on the old iron, you don't know what you have until you take it apart and put an eyeball on it.
