4500 stiff shifting

i baught this truck off a friend of mine with 195 000km 1997 4x4, and the clutch was gone so i did the 13" southbend ofe with the 1.375" input shaft. i used the dodge tranny fluid and over filled it half a liter. i never drove the truck before pulling the tranny but its pretty stiff shifting, i had the top cover off to clean and inspect the gears since the big gear on the back that rides on fifth gear was missing half a tooth. its driveable and i am going to leave it for a few thousand km before pulling it all out again. my friend drove it after and he said it was definitely not like that when he sold it to me. truck also has the upgraded clutch hydraulics. i have 75km on the clutch so far. its very nice to drive with 35's an 3:54 gears. 2nd gear take offs there is NO chatter.

when shifting its clicks a bit also??

mine has always done the same thing. does yours seem a bit more difficult to get into reverse?

They don't shift like a german sports car... Mine clicks in and out of every gear and sometimes doesn't like going into reverse either.

i have driven about 5 trucks with 4500's and there is definitely something wrong with this one, yes on the reverse as well. i will deal with it.

It could be that your new clutch is tight on the new mainshaft and not realeasing like it should did you put a small amount of grease on the splines and pilot brg? Does it grind going into gear if so that means the transmission is still turning that the clutch did not let go for some reason.

been thru 10 of those trannies get ready to rebuild it the gears will break as they are starting to and the synchro's are going along with the brass in the tranny. when mine started doing that stuff a rebuild was in the future if it didnt break sudden

i put grease on the everything but the thoughout bearing against the clutch fins. no grinding from shifting. i just have to shift slower. i kinda stops in nutral as you pass though. it has gotten better since i have put 250 km;s on it now.

hopefully the tranny does not need a rebuild
