3rd Gen guy with 12v Problem
Please help, my neighbors 1996 12 auto will not start and idle good, I know very little about the 12v. What are some common things to check, Im going over to his house tomorrow and need a few ideas of what might be wrong with his truck. He said he just replaced the fuel filter and it did not help. Does the 12 have a lift pump like the 24? Any help is appreciated, hopefully I will know more when I go over there tomorrow.
Thanks!
Thanks!
12v have a mechanical lift pump. Very seldom do they go bad. There is a pre filter/heater unit next to the fuel pump that tends to clog up. You can pull it apart and clean it. The shut down solenoid on the injection pump may be hanging also but I am going to guess that the rubber fuel lines need replaced. They typically start to leak a little air (before you can see fuel) and will cause hard starting, especially after sitting a few hours, or even a miss. Good luck
Check all of the above. Also, what is the idle speed? If it is too low, you'll have to tap the throttle to start.

How is the fuel pressure? If all of the above checks are good, then I'd check the overflow valve.
