340,000 miles.... to many for 12 valve?
340,000 miles.... to many for 12 valve?
Even for a diesel, its a 96 12 valve extended cab, 4x2, 340,000 MILES
he wants 6 grand for it... but with that many miles im sorta scared about it, single rear wheel. auto trans, Been looking for a Manual but I cant seem to find ANYTHING nearby.
im thinking about offering him 5,000 or maybe less for it?
What do you guys think?
it has Power seats, power locks, cd player,A/C, a few nice options
Since ive never been around 12 valve cummins, do they also shutdown with a CHIRP like the new ones? I would guess yes
Would no chirp be a sign that compression is going down hill on the engine?
They are all highway miles he said, and he bought it last year
he had the trans rebuilt, (will ask about receipts) and the engine starts up like new still.(hopefully)
Im going to go check it out in a few days, anything I should be going under the truck to check for? Im sure theres tons of stuff.
Ever since I bought my 3rd gen ive been on a diesel craze :/
thanks for the help, the auto's on these trucks just arent that good are they? atliest in the early years? Should i hold out for a 5 speed?

i think 6000 is pushing it..id say 4000! cause its just a regular cab and its not even 4x4 ...ps the chirp is absolutely normal....what does the truck look like? any rust at all? scratches?? the reason i ask is because if the truck looks mint then he probably changed the oil regularly and it was well maintained...if it looks like its been abused for alot of work then im sure the all the fluids were left untouched for many months ....ive heard of12 valves getting 700 000kms and more and thats in tow trucks under working conditions....but i absolutely wouldnt pay 6000$...i wouldnt pay 6 grand canadian!!
3500-4000$ US is more appropriate
3500-4000$ US is more appropriate
ps one more thing...after everything i have learned on here id hold out for a 5 speed...one super solid clutch and billet input shaft and ur gonna have alot of fun....if i could do it all over again id go 5 speed
yea, i was thinking he was steep, hes only 30 miles away :/
only 4x4 5 speed is 400 miles away!!! and seems overly priced
im searching autotrader.com for cars etc.
can someone point me to a possible other source?
and Ebay.... Ebay seems to be insanely priced?
Why is it that a 1993 12 valve dodge with extended cab is going for 6,000 dollars? its got 130,000 i think, im sure thats really low mileage but still... a 1995 or 96 is going for comparable price or so it seems :/ on ebay.
check it out, its on ebay, I cant believe its that much :/
700,000 is amazing, well the guy did say it had a 5th wheel on the truck when he got it, then he took it out and put a new bed on the back of the truck.
thanks for ANY more information guys its appreciated!
EDIT**
theres a 92 dodge cummins about 100 miles from me at a dealership its around 4k, extended cab and 130,000 miles on it :/
the blue book values on these trucks dont seem to go down with mileage

If it was properly maintained, I wouldn't be scared of it.
Does it use any oil? Is the engine clean (no leaks)? Having a copression check done, wouldn't be a bad idea, given the miles.
Are the axles dry on the outside?
Rust? Dents and or scratches? How bad, if there is?
Does everything work? If not, what?
The chirp is normal. If it isn't doing it, it could the idle needs to be bumped up a little, or the belt it has, was designed to prevent it. I like it though.
Good tires?

this wednesday Ill be going to view the trucks in person, only talked to both the owners today over the phone.
the one for 6,000, isnt even color matching, the bed was replaced and is white while the truck is grey... so... I could paint it but maybe if it was 3,000 ish.
have a feeling the guy wont go that low, I think hes trying to go by the Kelly's Blue Book value, which is over 8,000 somehow??? way off i think
The 1st gen I am told is solid.
got a busy weekend/ week ahead so ill post up again on wednesday or so, about how the trucks turned out, Got 1 marriage, 1 hospital appointment, and 1 junkyard lined up
I understand that the chirp is normal but if the engine wasnt running a good compression would it still chirp? I thought the chirp was from the high compression, stopping the engine instantly!

340,000 no sweat
Journier I bought mine with 351,000, it was in very good shape but not pristine by any means and it needed some deferred maintenance. I paid $9000 for mine. $6000 for a very nice 340,000 4x2 is NOT paying too much, pretty great deal IMO.
I've had a couple minor issues with mine, but it cranks along just fine and I did some fairly heavy towing with it yesterday. I'm at 374,722 right now.

And the engine stops faster then the accessories because of the higher compression.
$6,000 is what a clean first gen 4X4 is worth; a 2WD in decent condition is worth more than that.
Out here in California these things are worth gold... You seem to be under the impression that these trucks are less valuable than they really are. Most owners get BlueBook, so...

all the miles are highway
i love that one...ive pulled that on a young naive kid when i sold my mazda...its the oldest one liner in the book next to "lady driven" and "must sell leavin country"
I just bought my '95 2500 4x2 reg. cab not too long ago with 278,000 miles. I paid $5300 for it. Oil looked clean and it runs great so far (knock on wood). Body was in great condition but the interior was pretty dirty and had no carpet. At least he gave me a brand new carpet... I'm just working on it and having fun along the way. I think I got a pretty good deal. Except I missed the absolute best deal. One week after I bought my truck I saw one in the autotrader for $5000. It was a 94 exactly like mine but with only 166,000 miles! The guy thought it was junk cause it had so many miles on it. But $5000 was the kbb value. Don't wait for another deal like that to come along again. Maybe there was something wrong with it, the guy who was selling it owned a used car lot who mainly dealt with foreign cars. But in the end, I'm happy with mine...
